Often times the events held at The Venue are all age shows because they host punk, indie and techno groups who are widely popular among Salt Lake City youth. The Venue is located on 219 S., 600 W., located near the Gateway and easily accessible by Trax. The club also hosts 21 and up shows—which allows adults to drink inside without being confined only to the upper floor. In The Venue is also synonymous with Club Sound; the only difference between the two are the separate entrances on the north and west sides of the building. These venues have been successful in the valley because they are one of few establishments that cater to the 18 and older crowd. Area 51 is another popular venue among high school and college students. But what separates these establishments from the rest of the club scene in Salt Lake is their ability to offer a genuine “club” experience for attendee’s to see their favorite bands live. In The Venue isn’t known for its roomy dance floor. There have also been times where it’s felt like there wasn’t enough elbow room to move through the crowd and get closer to the stage. “Great sound. Great concerts. But tight on space” said Jeremy Wright, a frequent partygoer of Club Sound/In The Venue. But the tight-knit setting seems to be the only unattractive thing about In The Venue. The venue itself is great. For those who have never been to a live show before, The Venue is a great place to start. The venue also maintains the nostalgic feeling that experienced partygoers had with their first live show: cramped dance floor, energetic crowd, and decent interaction with the performers. “The concerts I’ve seen have always had good lighting and sound—they host great shows,” said Wright. The space is divided evenly between the 21 and older crowd and the rest of the audience. For those who want to drink, they can hang out upstairs and watch the concert from the balcony—there is also space outside to catch some fresh air. For those who aren’t 21, there is plenty of room near the entrance to grab a soda, bottle of water or glow stick—depending on the type of event hosted for the evening. Many of the regulars In The Venue attendee’s have posted blogs about their positive experience at Club Sound/The Venue because the venue caters to their audience’s appreciation for music. “I don’t have to be at Club Sound to enjoy a concert,” said Jessica Marie. “But I go there because the atmosphere has always been great and I’ve never been disappointed in a show.”

Sugarhouse is far from a college town but on the corner of 1700 S. and 1300 E. there is a little gas station that has done big things to make it feel like one. This particular gas station and everyone’s favorite proprietor of the establishment, Ali Imran, have become Westminster legends over the last few years.
